about

From the original liner notes:

I am from New Orleans (born-again New Orleanian that is) and, though I have been honored to release 6 other full-length projects over the years, this is my first one since the storm (I’m sorry I should say – Hurricane Katrina. Everything is Pre- and Post-K back home). All that by way of saying, this record means a lot to me.

I recorded it in my room – literally. With the exception of one track that includes piano, it is just me and my guitar. As you’ll see I wrote for the liner notes:

“In the beginning, this dream was just about sharing a song. So much has changed since then, and so much remains to be seen. “Now” is, in many ways, a return to that early, most basic vision: simply and honestly, flaws and maybe a little magic – songs. I hope a few find a home in your heart. Thank you for the honor and privilege of sharing them with you.”

That’s what this record is about for me: reconnecting with a part of me, reconnecting with my friends/listeners, reconnecting with life again or maybe for the first time. This time in my life – since the storm – has been beautiful and horrific. It has been a time I wouldn’t wish upon anyone but that I also wouldn't trade for the world.

This record found its home in the title “now” because that’s all it is – simply and profoundly a snapshot of where I am today. There’s too much to say about what has past and nothing but guesses about what’s to come. This record is me reaching out to life and reintroducing myself with a simple, hello, this is brian perry, now. It’s also the first real record I’ve engineered and produced myself. I did that very much on purpose as I’m learning to trust my own intuition and voice again – or maybe for the first time.
